Uploading Avatar?

I was just tweaking my profile and my avatar defaulted to the dreaded penny. Now I can't figure out how to get my wacky packages avatar back. I tried doing what I did last time, but I can't get the upload button to appear. Is it now restricted again to only the 15th of the month? Somebody help, I just don't feel like myself this way!

Do the avatars that have been uploaded by individual users still exist somewhere on the system?

Yes, that's my understanding.

It's uploaded to the cu avatar list since you have already used it. No need to upload again. If a search of the list doesn't reveal the image, check the file name of the image on your computer and search the avatar list for that.

Go to your profile, click view all. If you can't find the image search for file name

Anybody know how to contact the webmaster? Maybe I can get them to restore it.

Is the image stored on your computer? If so, search via file name if you don't see it in the cu list.

I know what the file name would have been and it's not there.

Matt is correct. You should be able to upload the image from your computer.

From recent personal experience, if you change your profile in any way (even if updating your signature, etc...) on any day other than the 15th your personally created avatar will be removed and you will be defaulted to the dreaded penny. The manually uploaded avatar is not permanently stored and will not be available from the list, as the list seems to be a snapshot frozen at some point in time. In the meantime I would recommend picking something else you like more than a blurred penny and then promptly change it back to whatever you like on the 15th.

Thanks dytch...your statement reflects my experience exactly. It's quite annoying not to be able to change your profile without losing your avatar. Hopefully either the webmaster can restore mine, or I'll try to upload it again on the 15th.

And why, I don't remember any answers, is it that we can't change it when we feel like? Can't imagine it takes up much space (unless they are tight on space) or slows the site down.

I'm not sure why it was done. I looked back to my e-mail and the admin didn't offer an explanation, just that it was a decision made in approx. May 2014.

The storage space they used to allocate for avatars has been set aside so the upgraded chat can function properly.

And to my knowledge, no one uses the chat.
