How would you grade these cards...

Hey Everyone...

I have decided to send in a few cards I have had for a number of years to PSA. I always try to assess the grade before submitting...but I am usually too biased and optimistic. So...I would appreciate your input on how these will grade. My grades are

1957 Whitey Ford=8
1962 Willie Mays =8
1964 Pete Rose=8.5
1965 Steve Carlton=9
1968 Johnny Bench=9
1969 Nolan Ryan=8.5

They all look sharp with 8-9 potential, but a closer/bigger pic would help see corners better.

Ok I was looking on my iPad earlier, pictures are better on computer. I think you are probably close to the grade your are guessing. As long as there are no surface issues.

Were any of these purchased from Uncle Bill's Treasures on ebay?

HOLY CRAP. If those are real they are AMAZING!

BTW ... where is the '66 Morgan?

    Those are beauties!
Also, a quick tip on the photobucket links. Copy the link that starts with [IMG] so
you'll only get the image and not the link included and all that extra room.

Nice cards good luck. I have learned I am not good at the grading game, so don't want to get hopes up or burst a bubble.

Actually the issue is probably in the Photobucket settings.

It's tough to tell from scans, but I would worry about the bottom edge on the Mays and right edge on the Rose (more apparent from back bottom edge) as possibly trimmed. If not, I think your guesses are all possible, but .5-1 grade lower on each would not surprise me either.

    Guys...

Thanks for all the tips about using Photobucket...and all input so far! I purchased the '65 Carlton and '69 Ryan from Al Rosen at an auction in Fall 1993...cards were on display at the 1993 National in Chicago for his upcoming auction. The Mays was purchased from Shoebox cards in the late 1980s at a card show(I believe a National) before grading existed. I am only concerned about the '64 Rose...it measures 2 31/64 x 3 1/2. Is 1/64 inch within tolerance? Cards were scanned using an HP ENVY 5530 scanner...no doctoring of photos. Colors are truly that rich...very eye appealing.

    +1

Curious to know why you think the Pete rose would get an 8.5? To me, looks like a possible 10. Maybe I'm missing something.

Nice cards, I think your grading is accurate based on viewing the scans. Please post the results when you get them back.

  • They are all trimmed. Rather easy to see on the front but more obvious on the back.

There is a black print smudge from the black nameplate into the jersey just above Pete...also lighter print smudge around the letter s in Reds. Otherwise...card is definitely a 9 (centering ~50/50...corners are UNTOUCHED...edges are clean...deep color (front and back) and sharp registration and beautiful gloss). I own a PSA-9 in this card...and this card is nicer! I just hope it is not trimmed...like I said side to side...it measures 2 31/64.

Those are all stunning raw cards. I think they are all very solid 8's depending on whether there is a problem on the surface that we can't see. The Rose looks like a real shot at a 9, fantastic looking card. As mentioned by others, if those are not trimmed or altered in any way, you have some high dollar cards there.

The Rose appears to be trimmed to me. Maybe the Ryan as well. If not, they are some sweet cards.

From the front, I thought the Rose was trimmed, but from the reverse, it just looks like a slight diamond cut, but a gradable one.
