Hardcore Pawn - 1952 Topps Set

Did anyone catch the new episode of Hardcore Pawn last night?

1952 Topps set...kind of. Looks like most of the high end cards were missing but it looked like no more than 50 or so were missing. They were in pretty good condition and the guy only wanted 3000 for it. They wouldn't go more than 2000. I would've snapped it up in a heartbeat for 3k
It never leaves you...

I saw this exact episode last night and was blown away by them passing on the collection for $3000. I am not sure how many cards were in the album but the looked extremely high end. I paused the TV a couple of times to look at what cards they had in the sheets. I did see a couple of minor stars (Kell, DiMaggio) but nothing else. The seller carried out the binder as if it was a 1998 Topps series one set in pages. No care whatsoever. I did think it was odd for all of those nice cards to be housed in brand new plastic sheets. Most people with older collections are in much older pages. I think it was staged.

I saw the show too. I think I saw the Mays card in the notebook. $3000 would have been a pretty good deal for the shop.

One of the producers for that show worked for the Jerry Springer Show. Every scene is staged. At least with Pawn Stars, the people and items they bring in are real.

Yes, they arrange the spots in advance, Ted, but the people, the items they bring in and the negotiations are real (with some editing done for TV). I know people who have gone on the show with items to sell and it is for the most part a legit program.

They were casting for an old couple to bring in a dress. Some must be legit if you saw them on the show, others 100% staged, maybe real items??

Caucasian Male in his late 60’s and up. Interesting weathered face & hands. Workman like, a good guy. A man with a back-story from the war or something, told in his worn face and hands where the watch is.

“Wife”: Caucasian Female in her late 60’s and up. Loveable. Loads of sweetness.

Hardcore Pawn is one of the only TV shows I watch. I love it.

Staged or not it is amazing.

  • Yes Im sure it's staged. The show used to be entertaining but now it is just stupid! There was also a 56 Mantle in the binder you can clearly see the back as he was flipping through it.
  • The whole World is staged.
  • Pawn Stars hasn't even been semi-real since their first season. The "stars" are only there for filming. The "customers" are pre-screened and paid to be on the show. In most cases they are given an item and told what to say about it including the story behind it. All of the negotiating is scripted with a predetermined final outcome. Didn't even think this was a secret any more.

There are some folks in this country who think the Walking Dead is real, so should we be surprised that some people believe Pawn Stars is real? lol

Saw an episode of "Storage Wars"...now you wanna talk fake AND misleading. Guy had a binder of 1994 UD NASCAR - Set sells for under $10...guy about blows his wad when he sees it and states positively "This is a $150 Set"...even at the end, it adds up the set as $150
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • I also love that he says let me call my buddy Steve at PSA and let him come check it out. He's only a 4 hour drive away. He will be here in 10 minutes.

Here are a couple interesting threads from the coin forum about a CU member's experience on Pawn Stars.

I don't like Hardcore Pawn as the father, son and daughter hate each other. Maybe it's just part of the act. As far as Pawn Stars. I have been to the shop several times and never seen any of the "stars". I'm sure they are only there for filming and when they are filming you can't get in unless you are an extra.

You want to see a staged reality show Hoarders is it. All rats and maggots have to be in a union to make an appearance.

You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each must play a part
Fate had me playing in love with you as my sweet heart

Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to change, you acted strange
    And why? I've never known

Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than I go on living without you

Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
    With emptiness all around
And if you won't come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down
