New Hand Cutter - It's a Beast!

Picked up this new roller-cutter from Dahle which arrived today, it is the 440 Premium model. I am highly impressed with the edge quality this thing makes, indistinguishable to my eye from a good factory edge. The bar that the blade rolls on is about 1" x 2" so no chance of the blade moving off track or flexing. This will cut just the tiniest sliver off the edge of a card which makes re-trimming or re-sizing an edge pretty easy.

Downsides are the price and the fact that it came with no cut guide to show you where the blade will run. It is suggested at $350 by the manufacturer but I found a nice deal at Adorama Camera for $189. Also, I rigged up a pretty slick way of determining the blade's exact cut point. PSA 10 hand-cut, here I come!!

    Nice!

That's hardcore... what are you chasing with it, anything in particular?

There are 3 Bosworth cards I need that can only be obtained by hand-cutting. Two of which I still have to convince PSA to slab. I think I have a good chance of getting them to agree to grade both, although it may take a while.

I have that UK sticker book I need to cut up.

I've been wanting a nice cutter since I was deep in the clutches of my Bo Jackson collection, I had a few of his cards I wanted to hand-cut and may still go seek those out as well.

Anything that can be hand-cut is fair game I guess. Who knows what the future may hold...

Still sad to see your Bo collection go... but I totally get why you sold it off and it's not like you can't amass it (plus some) in the future.

I meant to ping you on the UK Sticker Book... if you have a spare Walter Payton, please hit me up. image

    Happy slicin'.

I was saddened by the loss of my Bo collection also. I do plan to get at least some of the cards back in my hands over time. In fact, I recently picked up a couple at auction. I'm going to take it much slower this time and look for bargains. At least that's what I'm telling myself...

I did send a copy of Payton from that sticker book to PSA which arrived a couple of days ago on a 50 day sub (used my old cutter). Will keep you posted on that, however, likely going in my collection because I'm chasing the set. If I don't have to sacrifice cut him in the second book to get another player I will be happy to make a reasonable deal for the other Payton. I also continue to look for more copies of the book so I'm sure down the line I'll be able to help out.

Curious as to how long the blade lasts. Keep us up to date if you wear that thing down.

Supposedly the blade self sharpens with each use. I don't see myself using it so much that I will dull the blade. I did cut a CS1 in half 4 or 5 times through the double thickness and it did not faze the cutter.
