1858-S G$1 PCGS AU50 Bass Collection Pedigree

This is a tough, low mintage (10,000), San Francisco mint, gold dollar. Combine that with being from the famous Bass collection and you have a very unique coin. As Doug Winter has stated in one of his recent blogs, coins from this mint have become very popular as of late but remain undervalued.
This coin has a strong strike and lots of remaining luster. It does have some scrapes and hairlines on the obverse which account for the grade. This date is much more difficult to find in an AU grade from PCGS than NGC. Almost 3 times the population in NGC. Doug is currently offering this date on his site in PCGS AU53 for $1450 and he recently sold an AU58 for over $3,000. I think this one looks nicer and has the Bass pedigree for only $1299 shipped.
