Anyone ever just ask PSA to grade a card as authentic?

I'm thinking of sending in some low grade items and wondered if anyone else does this on raw /non-autographed cards? I would hope that I would not have to wait 50 business days to get them back this way, but I'm sure they would not be prioritized either.......Thanks in advance!

I just did that on my renewal sub and they did it. I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking whether that will improve poppage time? I guess I'm not sure of that answer. My "authentic" request was mixed with 5 numerical grades. Whatever you choose, best of luck!
  • I called and asked customer service about this about 2 years ago. I was told that I could mark on the invoice that I wanted them as "authentic only", but ultimately it would be up to the "discretion of the grader". As far as improving log/pop times, I have no idea. Hope it goes well for you should you go that route.

I'm not sure either, but I wouldn't expect faster turntime. Might make the day a little easier for the 2 or 3 graders that would see the cards, but they'd probably move through the system at the normal pace.

I have an Al Kaline rookie that I knew they wouldn't grade because it had been obviously recolored with red where there was some paper loss. I sent it in asking to be Authentic only knowing it was recolored, but they wouldn't do it.

My case was a different scenario, and it was the only card I asked to be labeled as Authentic in a monthly special, so it took the normal time because of the rest of the cards.
  • I have done it with a 1961 Lake to Lake Bart Sarr. It did take an additional call as they were not going to encapsulate. With less than 20 graded, they did slab. Mine was missing a small piece of the corner due to these cards being stapled to quarts of milk back I the day

Yes. On my 1967 Topps Plak Checklist for my Yaz Master Set. Was at the 2013 national. They initially refused because the card was trimmed. But next day they talked to Joe and he OK'd it

I have a 1953 Topps Mantle that was taken from a scrapbook and had part of the scrapbook page glued to the back of the card. I called and asked if they would grade it authentic and was told probably but the grader would make the determination. It came back a PSA 1.
