Thrace Chersonesos Hemidrachm

Hello All,

I have made some fun purchases in the last month. This is a hemidrachm from Chersonesos, Thrace.

I have admired the design for a long time and wanted to add an example to my collection. There are many varieties of this type and different denominations as well. The varieties include many different designs in the quadripartite incuse squares on the reverse. While I hope to add a type of the bee and salamander at some point, this was a nice start at a pretty reasonable price.

Somehow, my pictures turned out marginally better than before. Thank you, universe.

Very nice, that's one of the issues I am also looking for, it's a lovely design.

Neat. I almost bought one of these last spring, but got something else instead.

Thank you for all of the compliments, fellas.

I had been seeing these lions teasing me for months. Many start out in the $99 range for anything decently centered and struck. I was able to get this bad little boy for under half of that. I would like to add the bee and salamander first but I also know there are several other varieties and I am not even certain of the extent of the varieties so I am not sure if the three coins will make up the whole of the collection or if it will be several pieces in toto.

I also purchased several Gallienus and a Valerian antoninianii from the same seller as well (9, to be exact plus the Thrace) for a very good price. If you look at the link below you can see the Gallienus collection as it is getting fleshed out some more. Quite substantial flesh out recently.

Again, since I am a pretty tight budget, years of debt neglect, child, wedding and all, I stick to about $20 or less per coin, especially if they are not denarii. But these all were under the threshold, I had some bonus money from work and well, I wanted them.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD! I mean, Gallienus.

And this Valerian was the one who snuck in with the lot.
