...this is about the 5th time I've seen this and all from different sellers? If it's already been discussed here let me know and I'll delete, but wondering if this is the result of bulk submissions or leftover inventory...or the docks being closed in So-Cal for the last 6 weeks due to union strike threats or...I suppose anything really to help me understand why the old holograms are being used again?

...I'm guessing they're still on the outside of the slab...
GrandAm - yours were these?
I received my 225th Commem and 50th Kennedy silver coins back today
All the 225th, including the gold, had the traditional style whitish rectangle holo.
All the 50th Kennedy silver coins had the in question, new DuPont IKON square holo. (Mr. Explicit says: "yes, the one I posted in the animated gif above")
I'd have thought the gold would have garnered the new square holo, too. I guess they want to keep things the same for the set?
I hope they keep using the dupont as I prefer them. when I start to re-sub through secure plus, I hope to see them on my slabs.
I am not butthurt by any means (as I am 100% confident the coin is a real PCGS holdered coin)...I suppose I would be a tad upset if I sent a coin in today and received this type of set-up tomorrow though...so what really is going on here???
edit: for spelling...aaaand thank you very much Mr. Jose Cuervo!

Yes, it was the above label but I got another back more recently that had the older circular label.

<< <i>PCGS Hologram new or old doesn't bother me any....but the old style non-scratch resistant plastic still being used without an explanation...bothers me a bit I suppose. >>
It would bother me enough to send it back. The new plastic is not just scratch resistant. It is clearer (less blue) and has much better optics. Makes a big difference with photography.
You'd probably have to make some noise for PCGS to fix it for free. I don't think they'd see anything wrong with what you have.

First, this deal undermines the newly added security of the new hologram, considering that the market will still be flooded with the old hologram with new cert#'s. Second, just like in a poker game, it will now be easy for an experienced collector to tell wether or not a coin on the market has been submitted in bulk. Third, as soon as the bulk submitter sells off its inventory, the coin will still be tarnished IMHO by anyone else who sells it later on. In all fairness to our host, the only coin I have bought in this fashion was stickered by CAC so it shouldn't be a big deal (in regards to the bulk submission grading conspiracy theorists)......but I feel it will be down the road.
Who am I to make a suggestion??? I don't know really but I still will. PCGS, maybe explain somewhere that bulk submissions will be using the old hologram and old plastic so that future buyers won't be reluctant to pull the trigger on a Newp at auction....without fear of any counterfeit questions. I really don't want to make a stink about it but I guess I already did. If the thread gets poofed I will not mention it again, but I speak from the collectors standpoint....and also the dealers, as they should not have to fear their potential clients wondering why their coins don't have all the new cool added upgrades to your slabs
...I'm still wondering why the holograms aren't put on the lnside of the slabs...
<< <i>...I'm still wondering why the holograms aren't put on the lnside of the slabs... >>
Many questions about that as well, but one concern I've read about is not knowing what atmospheric affect might occur if the hologram were sealed in with the coin. Be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

The hologram wouldn't be sealed in with the coin - the label itself is sealed off from the coin. In any case, it just delays the time until the sticker is counterfeited. What would be the perfect deterrent would be to TRUEVIEW every coin that's graded. It would force counterfeiters to perfectly replicate every mark, strike and color of the coin instead of the plastic.

bulk is typically Modern stuff. Not always, but mostly. Trueview of Modern makes no sense as they all look the same.
There is a cost to the sticker. Bulk submissions are low cost, hence they save the sticker cost.

Just figured that was too logical. Still waiting on a sealed slab.
<< <i>I have a feeling that it may be bulk submissions that get the old one due to cost maybe? Just pure speculation >>
Bingo. As of last week, my last bulk shipment all still had Non-Logo slabs.

...I love it when my "just pure speculation" gets all but confirmed
I never would have thought that the old plastic would have been used as well though...seems a bit classless coming from the classiest TPG in existence IMHO. PCGS should let you dealers know in advance that bulk submissions will not have the new hologram or the new (AWESOME) scratch-resistance plastic...again IMHO
