1979 Topps vending rip

In homor of Grotes late night rip, decided to rip into a 1979 vending box. No Ozzies but some really sharp, tough cards.

These cards look and feel clean unlike some past 79s I've ripped.

    Nice. Any Stargell's or Parker's?

Is this box centered similar throughout?

Some very nice centering on those so far. If that represents the rest of the box you have a great rip going for sure.

Good luck, Chris! Looks like you have some sharp cards so far. Is this one of the PWCC boxes in that lot of 3?

Thanks guys. The box is absolutely not centered this way throughout but the cards are minty fresh so when the stars aligned it's turning out some stunners.

Off the top of my head, Garber and Hooton are the toughest of the bunch.

Tim - this was from a PWCC lot of 2.

Chris ... good luck and thanks for sharing.

Just an FYI ... Both Hooton and Garber in an "8" will not get you back your grading fees.
    In a "9", Hooton is $45.00 and Garber $20.00.
In a "10", nothing shown for Garber and only one that shows for Hooton was from 2011. It went for $100.00.

    Some really sweet cards Chris.

Ya know, I opened a 79T vending back in 1992 and didn't see an Ozzie or Ryan - was kind of disappointing. That's why later on, I bought a case. But, have never even considered opening it (?).

One card I pulled was a really nice Guerrero RC.

    Hiya Rick

That's my fear and why I wouldn't crack one of my better cases.

As long as it's unopened? All the boxes contain cards that are 50/50. image

Here are some better scans of the above cards as well as some additional from the vending box rip - including a very crisp Gary Carter.

Not all are suitable for grading but there are definitely some that seem to have real potential.

The line on Garber does indeed appear to be on the card itself as I switched out the CardSaver but I totally can't see it with the card in hand. Maybe it is why there are zero 10s out there.

Guess I may as well put this poppage here.

There are some 10s in 9 holders for sure. They need to find their way into 10 holders.

I guess the most exciting card here is the 1975 Tommy Davis, which looks to be pretty valuable in a 9. And the Dawson RC (#473) isn't bad.

This is definitely to be continued.

Definitely something up with it. I don't put a lot of stock in them determining strong 9s vs. 10s but if they say it's a 5, I know they're on to something!

If you can't crack them straight out of the box and get 10's how there even be any 10's in existence?
Work hard and you will succeed!!

Two words: quality control. Then again, 10s would be worth next to nothing if you could pull them consistently straight from the box.
