Late Night Rips Reprised...

It's been a long while since I ripped any 1970s unopened packs, with prices rising the way they have, but I recently picked up some vintage wax at a very good price, including half a box of 1975 mini wax packs and some 1978 Topps baseball wax packs. I've isolated a couple of 75 mini wax packs that bore some kind of defect (pinhole tears, broken gum) and will be putting those up on the chopping block later tonight along with the 3 78 wax packs that were broken down from a torn 1978 wax tray. I may even try and get into that last 81 vending box, depending on how things go. image

I am planning on picking up some 75 minis from now until the National, and then the plan is to pick up a BBCE wrapped 75 mini box or two and put them away. If I want to rip something I won't have the urge to do so if I have packs around. Actually as I have gotten older my willpower has improved to the point I can have stuff in the house and not rip or open it.

I use the same logic in that all my unopened is from sets I already have raw. If I feel an urge, which isn't very often image, I just pull out my set binders.

I have a disappointing story since we're ripping.

When everyone was buying 75T mini packs - I bought some to insure the deal went thru.

I wound up buying 5 - not sure how much - guess about 80 bucks a pack?

I had the ATT guy come in to put in a new modem - my wife was here - I didn't realize till months later that he took the sealed BBCEx package with him.

No way to prove it - so it's my loss. Didn't even think about anything - it was probably on my desk - now if anyone comes in, I stand guard with a Mickey Mantle store bought. image

Wow, that's terrible. Are you sure you didn't put it in the closet or sock it away somewhere? If he took them, I wonder what he did with them??

OK, now for the rippage~first two packs yielded some terrific star power, but centering, as usual, was tough.

First up: a pair of Robinson HOFers, one from each pack:

Also pulled a Sutton from one of the packs, but was also OC...one pack had three HOFers in it: Brooks Robinson, Rice RC and Sutton. Wish the centering were better but for the price I paid I can't complain.

I will open 2 more a bit later on.

Here are the best of the commons from the 2 packs I opened. The Messesmith is one I need for my registry set in PSA 8 or better which after 8 long years is now at about 95% completion, lol..
