1952 Mantle PSA 6

Card got $55k (plus buyers premium) at HA

That seems low to me, card had great color and really good centering

Am I crazy or was that kind of light on it?

65,725 after premium. That's the new record for a 6. It is indeed a great looking card and probably why it got the big number that it did.

10,000 for a buyers premium, is that normal? I've never purchased anything from an auction house, is the buyers premium declared before the auction starts? How exactly does that work?

That's one card that I wish I had gone into hock for.

Back around 1989 - I wanna say I could've picked up the equivalent of a PSA 6 for a small fraction of that number.

$65k+ was a new record for the grade. Price records for the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle have been shattered inside the last year for grades 8, 7, 6, 5, 4.5, 3, 2, and 1. So the hobby's main Post War standard bearer is killing it across the board.

As to Buyers' Premiums, yes, all the major Auction Houses charge a premium which is usually 19-20%. So when seeing what was paid for a card, one has to account for that, though when an auction closes, the stated final prices usually have a note that says, "Includes buyers' premium," or something to that effect.

For me the eye opener is the Ruth team rookie postcard reaching 95K+! Early Ruth material is insane.

The Gehrig RC signed also went bananas at 35k. That's my ultimate sleeper card for a long time now.

yeah, those were the days. wonder if we'll look back in 2030 and think the same thing. i'm sure that answer is yes

i was just blown away by how awesome this card looked, regardless of the grade. it's a stunner i think.

Mantle rookie prices are amazing right now, and most likely none of the PSA 10's will be offered for sale in the near future. If any of them were offered you would see the $1 million mark eclipsed in a heartbeat, and most likely test the $2-3 million levels. The last 9 sold for $280k back in 2006 which is an eternity in this business.

I know that Mantle rookies have been on fire, and have any other issues or years of Mantle's been selling strong lately? I know a well centered 57 sold for close to $5k, and a few 56 Mantles have gone for $4800-6000 in the last few months and an 8.5 just went for close to $11k. Anything outside of those been doing well?

Beautiful card. I really thought it would go higher given what I've seen 7's and 8's go for recently. Would love to have been the one who got it. But I'm thrilled for the one who did. image

That '52 Mantle 6 is gorgeous. The buyer must be stoked! BTW, '51 Bowman Mantle = rookie.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Nice 51 Bowman Mantles are hard to come buy and the few I know of that have sold privately since 2013 have far eclipsed the VCP data. In general, any nice Mick base card is going to fetch a handsome sum. I for one try and make sure they don't last long if they are listed on eBay with a BIN!

Does anyone have a photo of this recent Mantle? I checked Heritage and did not see it on the results page. Thank you.

Thank you very much for posting. Beautiful card with great centering. Someone got a great price on that one, and the 4.5 that recently sold for $30k+ was very nice for the grade and the price.

i don't think a bump is feasible due to the corners. but the color and centering are so awesome that you don't really notice them.

no apologies are needed for this card regardless of the technical grade, which is why i was a little surprised it didn't go higher.

thanks for the posting the link guys - i think once people see it they understand what an awesome card this was.
