<< <i>Must be a significant surface wrinkle to knock that first Gibson down to a 4. >>
If there is, I sure don't see it. The only things I see are MAYBE something going on with the lower left hand corner and some slight staining to the right of his cheek.
Edited to add: Looking at a magnified image I can see something going on under his ear on the right side.

I guess the semi pinhole just below the "n" in Gibson is what you are referring to? I don't see any surface wrinkles, and I would take that card as a "4" all day long.

<< <i>Definitely not an '8' due to the centering, but I was thinking '6'ish range. >>
Centering is more than adequate for an 8. Appears around 63/37.
i sincerely doubt a card like this could make it through the grading process with such a flaw going undetected. to a potentially untrained eye, the card will take on a better appearance, bring into question or doubt the opinion which has been placed upon it, and perhaps cause someone to pay handsomely for a card which quite likely won't get an economic bump.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
