Jeffrey Maier's infamous glove (burn it) - Heritage Auctions

Jeffrey Maier's ridiculous glove that cheated the Orioles out of a chance to play in the World Series is now up for auction at Heritage Auctions.

Someone needs to buy this glove and burn it. I hate everything about him. How everyone paraded him around like some kind of hero, even putting him on talk shows. Screw that kid.

The price is really crazy. With three days to go, the next bid, with buyer's premium, is almost TWENTY-THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Reminds me of the Bartman ball. Believe they (the Caray Restaurant Group) paid $113,000.... just to blow it up!

I think its a great story that he turned out to be an all time great college baseball player at his university.

As much as possible he did not let that moment define him.

If I recall correctly, the Yankees won 4 out 5 games that series. The Jeffrey Maier play was a bad call but it was one out in the series.

If that ball was ruled an out (like it should have been), Jeffrey Maier could easily have been the first Steve Bartman. I agree that it was absolutely absurd how celebrated that incident became.

Maier and Bartman are polar opposites. one was a catalyst. the other was a catastrophe.

If you recall correctly, then you would recall the insane amount of momentum that shifted after that debacle.

I recall that it shifted the momentum enough for the Yankees to win 4 World Series in short order. But really, momentum's only as good as your next pitcher. No hard feelings meant, Jeff. I know Maier is a sore spot for O's fans. I would personally have no interest in that glove.

How so? If it had been ruled an out, then Jeffrey Maier wouldn't really have affected anything. It appeared that Tarasco was going to make the catch if there had been no interference.

Simple. Even though Tarasco appeared to be in line to make the catch, it wasn't a given (see Nelson Cruz WS Game 6). So Maier interferes, gets booted, and boom. Steve Bartman Sr. Of course the Yankees probably would have won the series anyway. And nobody (even in NY) was going to harass a child as bad as Bartman got it. But it would have been a wholly different situation for Maier if the correct call was made.

A friend of mine met up with Maier a couple of years ago at his job for him to sign a few pieces and he got me a signed 3x5 for my collection:

I was going to mat it with this picture, but have yet to do so:
