And how did it turn out? I think mine was a fugio that I bought for around $400. Turned out extremely well, one of my favorite coins in my collection and I wouldn't sell it even if offered twice that.

Or just buy the fakes, right Eclectic?
I've purchased raw coins on ebay that were in the 4-6k range a few times. And once, higher.
All but one worked out nicely, and that one was a painless return. But, each time I had a pretty good idea who I was dealing with.
If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!
Also bought a raw 1795 DB dollar. Came back as possibly whizzed from PCGS. You win some you lose some. Forget what I paid... both were over 5 years ago, could even been 10 years.

<< <i>it is comical to listen to people's "fear" of buying raw coins on ebay, with the way ebay is structured to accommodate even the most brain dead buyer, is it even possible to lose money on an ebay purchase ? >>
Yes when a seller offers a return you have to pay shipping and sometimes a restocking fee.
The most I spent on a raw coin was 1895.00 on a Morgan $ and it turned out just fine.

$950 AU 1892-O Barber Half. It turned out terrible. Coin was cleaned and problematic. $200-$300 is my upper limit on unholdered coins now. Otherwise, the fees to holder are low enough on a percentage basis that the coin should be holdered (if it can be holdered).

Also the approximate cost of the most expensive PCGS coin I've bought on Ebay and then cracked out and made raw.
Above that figure, I tend to leave it in the plastic.

Most expensive I sold raw was a XF40-ish details 1798 S-155 large cent, which had been recolored, tooled, etc. but had great eye appeal due to its smooth, light brown surfaces. Sold it around $900-$1000. Buyer said it was much better than expected based on my description. I also sold an 1818 B-9 bust quarter, XF+ details, with dark corrosion for around the same amount. Both were true auctions, FWIW.

Took a couple years to get it graded at PCGS. Was the first one PCGS took out of a blister pack and the second MS68 graded.
The End
a raw, Gem Red BU Sacagawea Dollar struck
on a Cent Planchet.
I was the high bidder at $13,350
(I might be off a few hundred on the $350)
It graded MS-67, as I recall. Still in the same
collection that I sold it to, although the owner
passed away a few years ago. His wife, who
does appreciate errors, is keeping that coin,
and a few others, including an Indian Head Cent
struck on a $2.5 Gold planchet.
Recently paid $2500 for a 1895-s MORGAN. Beautiful coin, full Brest feathers and all. Gonna sit on it awhile before sending it off. Don't want to know if I've made another mistake quite yet!

Normally bidding on a rare emperor Roman on eBay is fraught with some peril, but in this case it was a published Wildwinds plate coin and the dealer was reliable.
It was a good purchase and a neat coin.

What are those worth? I would think clips on coins that small would not be very common.
