86 Fleer Bird Auto PSA 10

This card just recently ended at what seems to be a high price on Ebay as a POP 1. Do you see these types of cards retaining their value over the course of time? I understand the scarcity, but this card isn't even close to being his rookie year.

The rarity is that it is an PSA 10 that is autographed. That might be a Pop. 1. Not sure what the population of this card in PSA 10 without autograph?

1986 Fleer PSA 10 Bird's without the autograph sell for about $750, so I would say that's quite a premium for a guy that isn't all that tough to get.

So card sold for $1775. What are we talking to get a Bird autograph and slabbed? $100 for auto, ~$50 for PSA/DNA, and still the risk of damage in the process? So a premium of $800-900

There is a lot of risk in getting to that premium. Basically you have to either crack an $800 card out, have it signed without getting any damage and then get it back to PSA and hope it tens again. I'd say there is a high probability that the card ends up in a 9 holder even if the card sustains zero damage in the crack/sign/submit.

+1. Absolutely. This is much easier said than done. Post-manufacturer signed PSA 10s are extremely hard to come by and deceptively tough.

Heck, in the pre plastic card era (basically before the mid 90's) it's tough to get 9's on autographed cards.

But how do you know if was a 10 before it was signed? It looks like Bird signed over a surface blemish.
