    My guess is his team was losing.

    Linesman waves off the icing while the referee blocks the path of the defensmen trying to get to the puck while his net is empty? Not really necessary to shove the official, but it appears there was a bit of urgency to get to the puck with an opponent racing the other defensemen and the net open... Looks more like the referee expected the linesman to call icing.

    Should note that the team the offender plays for was down 3-2 and this happened as the game was ending.

    That dude better get suspended for a loooooooong time.

    Kind of makes you think the words "assault" and "police" should be brought into play. Just because it was so blatant and could have resulted in a neck fracture, paralysis. The ref was obviously defenseless. hmmm
