1976 Topps BBCE Wax Box

Hey guys, I'm bidding on this lot in an ebay auction, opinions on what its going to take to get it, how much is too much. Not ripping, thinking of holding for a few years. CD's are paying one percent, maybe I can do a bit better here. Thanks !

a couple have already sold recently via eBay. For less than what I thought I might add.

You should note that this is the 10 cent variety--which has 7 cards.

The 15 cent variety was issued later in the year and contains 10 cards--and is much more sought after

    +1

Unfortunately, for loose single packs, there's no way to tell the difference by the wrapper, unless you weigh the pack.

  • Yes, I've seen the 10 card variety but they are rare, I think 76's are much rarer than 75's and later issues. I would be thrilled to get this for under 5k.

BBCEx "buy" on a box is $4500.

I would guess to get for under 5K would be a steal?

Sorry to say, but that does not look like it will be happening.

I think a lot of people would buy it for less than 5k. Last summer some were posted for 6-6800

That would be a good price based on what I have seen in the last year or so. BBCE had a couple of boxes at the National last year for sale for $6400 each FYI.

Every time I see these nowadays, I get a knot in my stomach. I passed on a box at a local show a few years back where he was asking $1k. I inspected a handful of packs and they looked clean. I don't recall if they were the 7 card or 10 card packs but does it really matter at $1k?

A few years back you could pretty much tell a similar story about any box from the 1970s. I remember thinking $350 was a bit high for a 78 cello box, and 1K WAS high for a 77 wax box, lol..

My personal stash of '76 (plus more)...bought in March of 78 (should have been 77's, they sent the wrong cards to the local candy store):

I have a nice PSA 8 1976 Bench that says Canyon was born between 1969 and 1971! Nice group of cards and packs there and thanks for sharing.
  • Update: The box sold for 4900, congrats to the buyer, I hope you can resist the urge to open it !
