<< <i>This thing is taking a lot longer to fill than I thought it would. >>
Me too. Hopefully it fills up today as I'm looking forward to seeing how it shakes out. I think people are a little shy paying $38. Blowout did one about a year ago with a very similar set (not as many 9s on the commons) and sold their slots for $28.50. >>
i'm surprised too, but looks like it will get there - may take a few more days maybe?
on the blowout break, that 2nd set had none of the bigs in 9s, which makes a big difference
what seems to make this set more "unique" from a break perspective is the number of hits available, but also the value of those hits. if i did my math right, i think there are probably 18 or so hits on this break, but only 1 or 2 are kind of "on the line" - meaning they barely recover the cost
so there's a better than 10% chance of a hit, and of those besides the MJ rookie a lot are still 2-3X the price of a slot - on that old break that wasn't true at all, the majority of the hits were barely on the line especially since there are no PSA 8 "commons" that pay off (there are some low pop PSA 9s that would, a couple are in the current break)
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
So there's probably 4-5 here that are pretty close to break even, the other dozen are easily winners. There's probably a couple more like the Mullin and Worthy RCs that recover 2/3rds of the buy, if added those in it's close to a 1 in 6 cards are "hits". That seems like pretty good odds on a set break.
"113 Slots Sold - 30 Left Slot sales have slowed down with only 30 remaining. Plan right now is to keep the slot sales open through Sunday. If this does not sell out, refunds will be issued on Monday"
I wonder if they don't sell out, maybe they try it again at a reduced price?
Hopefully spots can fill up. It'd be a bummer if they have to call it off and refund the money. Does anyone post frequently on other boards that might have interest in this and can share the love? I pretty much just post here.
Appears there are 10 left. Good luck to everyone once this fills.
Bounce, maybe you could edit the title of the thread to note the # of spots remaining in case more boardmembers want to get in. I want to see someone from the board hit the Jordan!

Great idea actually, I wish I had thought of that. Done.
Any idea how many of the slots were purchased by board members? I would think there's a good chance at least one of the Jordans ends up with someone here.
the gambler in me loves this concept. I can't bring myself to open the vintage wax packs I buy (love to collect them though), but buying a slot in something like this means I dont have to tear open a beautifully wrapped vintage pack of cards but still get the thrill of scoring a big hit.
Who is going to break their 1975 Topps PSA 8 set and sell off the slots?
Or break their 1952 Topps PSA 7 set and sell off the slots
or break their T206 PSA 4-6 set and sell off the slots.
really any classic set would be fun to do this with. Maybe after the 10th time of buying slots and getting nothing but commons, my enthusiasm may wane, but until that time, I am game!!!

You might need a PSA 9 set from 1975 to drive people to buy-in. Only concern is the number of slots being so many.
This will be fun .. I'm building this set in 9 and a second set in 8 .. So if you don't get what you want I may be interested if it fills a slot for me.
GL to all those who jumped in.

1975 is really just too many cards, and in an 8 there's no real big ticket cards. You'd have to do a mix set I suspect and plunk in Brett and Yount 9s to get interest, and even then 660 slots is a TON!
1952 in 7 seems like it would be too expensive per slot, as even the commons would cost $60-90 per card just to put together. I think 1952 in maybe PSA 3-4 could be done, although it is 310 cards which is still a lot of slots.
T206 is another thing altogether.
I think that's why so far 1986 basketball has been the set break king. I know there was also a Play Ball set break last year that went pretty well, but it was lower grades and I'm surprised they were actually able to get it done as I didn't consider any of the cards as really top notch items based on the grades.
Whichever of the two estimated premiums you use, they're fair enough. With how the marketnis trending. But even more so, packaging each individual card and shipping them out...ugh.
Is the site running this drawing owned by the long standing opc member/dealer here?
I missed out. If anyone is getting cold feet or change of mind I may be willing to buy your drawing spot. The drawings tmrw. Although the time is not listed right now.
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all.
<< <i>What if you broke a large set into around (x amount) slot groups make 10% of the groups with higher $ items I think it would sell. What do you think?
Edit # of slots >>
i thought about this as well, so maybe for a 1975 set you put them in 5 or 6 cards per "lot" - that could potentially work
i still think 1975 would need 9 brett and yount (and maybe others)

Good luck to everyone who bought a slot. I really wanted to get in on the fun, but I am trying to stick with my resolution of funding all purchases with hobby sales. I had all my money tied up in another big purchase or else I would have liked to have gotten a few slots. It's just like the time I could have met Mr. T at the mall. The entire day, I kept saying, "I'll go a little later, I'll go a little later..." And when I got there, they told me he just left. And when I asked the mall guy if he'll ever come back again, he said he didn't know. Well, I'm never going to let something like that happen again! Anyway, best of luck to all. Lots of guys on the boards here with slots so hopefully someone here hits the big one!
I know halosfan and bounce are building sets as well but I figured I would post the cards I need to finish my set in PSA 8+. If anyone lands the any of the following, I need them: 4. Ainge 7. Barkley 10. Birdsong 33. Fleming 34. Floyd 60. B. King 61. Laimbeer 66. Lucas 72. McDaniel 77. Mullen 78. Nance 86. Perkins 93. Robinson 97. Sampson 99. Scott 114. Toney 122. G. Wilkins 130.
