Newbie question - why isn't the VDB Rev. Lincoln a first year type coin??

Because it isn't really part of the design. Type sets are types of designs if I am not mistaken. The line needs to be draw somewhere or type sets would be 250 coins

I asked about the absence of a spot for the VDB cent and was told they can't include all coins. Interesting choice considering the VDB is the ubiquitous collector coin, known by collectors and non-collectors alike. Not only is it absent from the type set of US Coins in the PCGS Registry, but it is conspicuously absent from the PCGS cent registry set:

For what it's worth, a spot is reserved for the VDB in the registry sets ATS.

Also, I consider the 1909 VDB a distinct type, as does Dansco, and as does NGC.
