FYI: combined invoices on eBay and returns

This is just an FYI for those who don't know how the funds on hold Paypal policy works for a returned item
When you sell multiple items to a buyer and combine their invoice, should they choose to return one of those coins and they use the eBay return system, the entire transaction amount of the full combined invoice will be funds on hold until the case is closed.
One buyer bought three coins from me a week ago Sunday for a combined $650. One of those is being returned which was $171. The entire $650 has been frozen pending case resolution.
I found this out accidentally as I went to make a purchase of 100 gently used Titleist golf balls for $30, and when I went to check out the PayPal balance owed was 360 some odd dollars, making me think the seller either made a mistake on the listing or the shipping was a mistake what it was some other mistake so I backed out of the transaction to recheck the listing and by the time I figured it out the listing for the golf balls had ended. I just called PayPal customer service asking them why they wouldn't just put a hold on the one item in question and after 10 minutes of futility which I knew was coming have learned that this is the way it is. Of course I let them know that this was a ridiculous policy and that it will certainly be costing them revenue as was with the case with my golf ball transaction not to mention other peoples angst and frustration with their system. I further went on to say that this will likely cause sellers who experience this to stop combining transactions and this will potentially cost eBay as well as all other parties involved money. I know for me if somebody buys more than one item the next time I will put the one combine shipping on one item and give them free shipping on the others as a workaround but what a pain in the ##*+¥£> that will be.
Thank God I sell very little on eBay and within the next two or three months I will have zero to do with srllong there.
It really means very little to me but I think the system is flawed and some people who are not aware of this may want to know

So who would have gotten the extra $330 had you proceeded?
You sell 3 items @$200 each
Buyer pays you $600
7 days later buyer says I love 2 of 3 coins, returning one of them
Buyer Starts return process
Paypal puts hold on $600 on your account even though he's returning just one coin got $200
Hold lifted after you refund the $200 after you get the coin
Thus, In the interim if you want to buy something else you have to cover/ fund paypal the entire balance on hold
Sounds like you are an occasional seller and they are protecting their funds.

Duh, you said the PayPal balance due was $360, but only $30 was for the golf balls so in my math 360 - 30= 330. Had you paid the whole balance due, what would have happened to the $330?
It caused me to double check the golf ball listing as to why I was paying $360 - you can't see that from the PayPal checkout page - all you can see is I needed to pay $360.
Re: being an occasional seller - I believe the rep told me this is an across-the-board policy but to be perfectly truthful I do not remember with any certainty
I have five years on eBay (4 as a seller) with 4.99 +DSR ratings across-the-board, zero negatives , and an average of about $40,000 a year in sales each of the past four years. Certainly far from high-volume, and maybe not enough to qualify as a regular seller - but I would say it's nothing to sneeze at.
I've had zero issues regarding resolution/cases and less than 10 returned items over 4+ years... Thought that was a decent track record... They can run my FICO score if they want to and they'd see it's over 800.....
The policy is ridiculous. Putting a hold on an item being returned is absolutely understandable and I agree with that 100%.
There is no reason not to.
But if somebody buys 20 coins from you that total $5000 and one of them was $10 and that's the one they return they are going to hold the whole $5000 for a $10 coin. Nothing wrong with that?
Ok - must be me then ..
They don't hold my funds. With some history and volume, they won't yours either.
They never have held any of my funds before during a return in the past either
I think this is a new policy
I can see some seller needing that money to eat or pay bills and they do that to him.
