I just had a very nice conversation with the forum admin and have (obviously) been reinstated. But this thread isn't about that. Instead I want to thank the many of you who posted such nice comments about me. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my contributions have been viewed positively by so many. Thanks again for your kind words. Now let's talk some cardboard!

For old times sake, would you please be so kind as to convey to us, "what was the one card that made you happiest to get, and why?" If you want to break this question in two to give your favorite childhood acquisition, and then as a rabid adult collector, I think we'd all love to get a two-run homer from you, friend. Again, glad you're back, and here's hoping you take my now two questions to heart for us all. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)
I spent half my summer vacation writing, "I will be nice and not mention BBG ever again," on the walls 3/4 of the Grand Canyon before I could get my board privileges back... Hoping your penance wasn't as severe.
I was probably most excited as a kid when my dad introduced me to the hobby as an 8 year old with a pack of 88 Donruss. Those were my first cards and I still remember almost every card in the pack (and have most of them): Molitor DK, Jody Reed RR, ellis burks, Fred mcgriff, cecil fielder.... It was very heavy on Red Sox and Blue Jays. I also remember my first card show with my dad and getting a 1980 Topps Joe Morgan and a 1990 Donruss card picturing the Yaz puzzle.
As an adult, there are a couple of Yaz cards that stand out as my favorites. The first is my Yaz RC. Not only is it an iconic card of my favorite player, it was a completely surprise Christmas gift from my wife and sons in 2011. We didn't have much money back then and I never thought I'd own his RC. I was floored when I opened it. You can see the card in my set linked in my sig. It's got eye appeal that far exceeds the technical grade and is mostly free of those pesky black dots found on most copies of the card.
Other favorites: my 67 Topps Yaz sticker which can be seen, along with a story explaining its significance, on page one of this thread And of course, finally getting to meet him and doing so with my sons 3 months ago was a tremendous memory. I'll always treasure the 69 Topps card I had signed that day.
sorry.
i was about to post this in your other thread. you know the one that got locked. swear to the higher authority, i was about to post mere seconds before the Sports Moderator put on the brakes.
but, i needed to share.
Have been gone and didn't know about all this?
Glad you're back - you're good people - always complimentary of other member's pursuits and passionate about what you collect.
So, yes, let's talk sportscards!
Actually, I just picked up this year's big coin op purchase - will be posting on it when it arrives - it's the nicest one I've ever gotten.
Take care.

Card Country
Graded stars 1950's-1980
I truly can relate. Briefly, there was the time many years ago when I debated whether or not to tell my wife about this baseball card I was mesmerized with and wanted to bid on like crazy. Chance of a lifetime. When I finally told her, knowing truthfully it would of a certainty be a serious outlay of cash for our own financially strapped family, I was bowled over by her tender encouragement to me to fight ferociously for this card of my dreams. I will forever be grateful to her for her loving encouragement to me at that moment. I said I'd be brief; I won the card and still own it. The memory of my wife's part in the winning of that card is very closely and strongly attached to it. So, I can truly relate. Please write your story, bro, and don't leave out all the mushy, gushy great details!!!!!!!!!! Have a great week, and again, well back Dan! --Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)
