Has Anyone Here Dealt With Covina Coin & Jewelry?

I pose this to the group...

I sent a large grouping of US Mint Sets, Proof Sets and Blue Pack Ike dollars to Covina Coin & Jewelry through a buy ad they had in Coin World a few issues ago. I initially sent them an email to confirm if the prices were still current. I received a response back the next day stating that the prices were current, and if I were interested in selling to them, to pack them up & include an inventory list. They stated that the turnaround time would be "a couple of weeks" from the receipt of the coins.

I sent the coins via USPS Priority Mail on 1/14 and according to the tracking information they received them on 1/16. So tomorrow now makes it FOUR WEEKS from the time of receipt, and I haven't heard back from them nor have I received a payment for the coins! I have emailed them 2x in the last 1.5 weeks WITH NO RESPONSE!

Should I be worried?? Any input here would be greatly appreciated!

I have heard, in the relatively distant past, that it often takes more than a "few" weeks to for Covina to pay.

They've been in business a fairly long time, however.

I have dealt with Leroy and Tracy for a long time. I cannot defend some of their business practices but since I deal face to face we have always been able to work out glitches re valuation.

Dave is their son in law. CALL HIM.

They work on a 30 day payment cycle. So do a lot of dealers with BIG names.

Call Dave. Get your situation squared straight. A lot of generic low end stuff comes to them everyday. Point them to this thread.
    Have a nice day

Many years ago I sold them a 1990 proof no S Lincoln cent. It took awhile as I recall to get paid but the check was good. I would call them.

I have sold to them at shows no problem. I have heard of slow pays from them but have always made good and as someone mentioned it is likely their cycle.

A phone call has always cleared up the occasional payment delays when I've sold them coins in the past.

I haven't dealt with them in a while but I did frequently at one time. Always the slowest check in the West.
A good check, but a slow one.......

They are slow to pay...but will eventually.

You might want to search the forum for previous threads about same topic/company.
  • I called Covina C&J this afternoon, and a check was actually being cut and was supposed to be on its way today. Thanks to all for your contributions! I'll post a followup if things go off the track...

    Thanks again!

Generally a fast nickel beats a slow dime, but in this case it sounds like both were slow.
