Who uses Intercept Shield inert boxes for storage?

and.... how do you cram PCGS holders into them so they can be gotten out again?

Might have to resort to grease!

I have the red double row 60 slab (?) box and they fit fine. I also have white boxes sized for flips, slabs dont fit quite so well in there...

No problems like that. Something is wrong if this is a track box we're talking about.

The inner boxes in the double-protection set up sometimes have a tight hold on the slab (unlike the inner box lids... Grumble...) , but the slab can still be pulled out with minimum effort.

PCGS is far easier to extract than NGC.

But the track boxes should have been designed with a tad more room in them.

I'm considering retiring my Intercept Shield slab cases and storage boxes. They're nearing the end of their projected shelf life. I'll probably switch to the Coin Armour regimen, with the copper impregnated ziploc bags and storage box.

I use the boxes with ten small two piece slab holders per box. The NGC slabs fit in easily. The PCGS slabs are a little tight but still fit. I'm not sure exactly which kind of IS box that you're talking about.

I've got the same Intercept Shield boxes and observed the same thing. NGC fits fine. PCGS not so much.

Which is why I mentioned the Coin Armour products. There are no space issues with either company's capsule while they are sealed in the corrosion barrier ziploc bags and deposited in the outer storage box. The copper impregnated Coin Armour bags may not be as aesthetically pleasing as the C.I. "cigarette" boxes, but they serve their intended use just as effectively.

And FWIW - these products are NOT inert. They are functional because they are lined with chemically reactive substances that act as a barrier host to trap environmentally reactive particulate that occurs naturally in the atmosphere surrounding the coins. They are anything but inert. image

I just started using Coin Armour and found no problem getting them into the bags or box, the box lids can be a bit tough to get on though.

And as CD mentioned, both intercept and armour are anything but inert. Armour states that it contains a reactive species of copper in the bags employed as a sacrificial metal. Try googling metal reactivity series for more information.

I have a few of double row Intercept boxes, work fine, but the film stuff on the inside needs a double-sided tape job from time to time.

I use the double boxes. My older ones were fine but some NOS that I got several months ago were extremely tight. Soon I'm going to replace all of them with the new ones
    that just came out.

Are yours the newest ones that are in production now?

I have one I use for my self slabbed stuff. Have them in groups of six with rubber bands. Coins are in order by denom / date. So when I get them out at a show its quick and easy. Six slabs stacked on top of one another will still allow you to close your case at a show.

I found this to be true as well. The older ones had enough room to easily insert and remove the PCGS slab from the inner box. The newer ones were extremely tight. Does anyone know if the new ones just coming out are this tight? Or did they go back to the original specs which made life much more pleasant?

  • Yes, they are great. Use a few different types of boxes depending on if the coins are raw, slabbed etc. Still have a bunch of unused boxes as I was a "reseller" for awhile. Used to send every coin I sold out in an intercept shield holder.

    Great Product IMHO
    All the best,
