Is smartpost only slow when coming from the mint?

When I order from the USMint, and they ship "smartpost", it takes 9-10 days to receive my goods.
When I just ordered from somewhere that wasn't the USMint, and I saw "smartpost", I thought "oh CRAP!", but the item, ordered late night Sunday, shipped late on Monday, came today.
Granted, it was only a state away, and I get that. But, to add 7-8 extra days coming from the mint? Sheesh.......I just wonder if there is some other reason they are ultra slow from the mint....

I know that...but the fulfillment center is closer to me than the east coast........
And, normally, the longest I wait for anything shipped, even from east coast, and without paying for any expedited shipping (talking registered and such) has been ~7 days....

Smartpost, which I call Slowpost, is a low cost shipping service ... and it can be quite slow ... but it does get there.

FedEx handles the initial part of the shipment and then turns it over to the post office for final delivery.

Now not until Tuesday , And it is in Kent Washington .
Today. I can drive there in a couple hours. It's only
Thursday and im not going to get it till Tuesday?

That's exactly what I noticed when getting from the Mint as well.

The latest smartpost package I got, NOT from the Mint, made it to my local PO and was delivered the next day.
Wouldn't be as bad if they gave the option of halting the package when it made it to the local PO/UPS and then going there to sign it out with proper ID, but they don't.

I haven't received many things via SmartPost because I try avoid it like the plague. My limited experience is that delivery times are all over the place: 2 days one time, 7 days another. These are from various non-mint origination points.
