Did PCGS Abandon So-Called Dollars?

I receive the response ".... is not a valid PCGS #" when looking up in coinfacts.

The same occurs when clicking on the links from the pop reports.

Anyone here get any graded recently?

I've noticed the same thing with looking up other things like Feuchtwanger Cents on CoinFacts. "not a valid PCGS #"

I'm guessing it's just an error with CoinFacts as those PCGS numbers should still be valid whether or not they are still grading the coins... which I'm sure they are as I just had a few so-called dollars graded @ PCGS last month.

I have zero direct knowledge of this, but...

I did just read a report somewhere by dcarr about speaking to David Hall about changes to medals and tokens being certified and some new procedures coming? Perhaps they are updating a database, or changing numbers?

    They're still listed here:

I'd try the customer service number and see what they say.

It's the foreign department I'm wanting to navigate more. I wished all my life I'd have had a mentor. At nearly 60 years of age, I'm like a kid in a candy store with all of the "variables" and kinds of coins and currency in the world, at large. … And that is an OMG large.

Thanks for the assistance guys! I have about 100 SCDs that I would like to send in for grading, but I am concerned that they may not be worth the effort/cost.

During the three or so years that PCGS has been grading so-called dollars, they have logged a total of 277 in their pop reports. Are they that rare or is it a lack of interest?

I suspect I know the answer, but I am in a state of denial.

" Are they that rare or is it a lack of interest?"

Neither. I firmly believe that they let the NGC capture a major portion of the market by resisting the idea of venturing in to authenticating and grading these until it was too late. image

When NGC lost their chief exonumia authenticator/grader several years ago, problems began arising with all aspects of exonumia submissions, and the resistance to using them increased. With a significant portion of the market already captured by them, the dealers who were carrying such inventory also were promoting price levels that scared new entry collectors away from the market, and with few exceptions (ultra rarities) the market has hit a wall. And one other point - there are actually three players in the TPG market for SCD's - ANACS also has grabbed a share of the market, which now leaves the market for SCD's to be graded spread very thin across the three companies.
