Need some opinions on this Ebay issue with a buyer

I sold a card on Ebay last week for $62+. It sold on Saturday, January 31. I shipped it the following Monday, February 2. Tracking shows several steps until is shows "Delivered" on Wednesday, February 4.

With all of that in mind.....the buyer claims he never received it. He even acknowledges the tracking info, but he says he never received it. He is being cordial. I am as well. He has filed a claim.

Question - who will win the dispute? I did everything required of me. As far as the evidence goes....he theoretically could be lying.

Not sure if this matters, but I am a top rated seller with perfect feedback.

As long as you shipped to their paypal confirmed address, I would imagine you would be fine. If he kicks and screams to ebay they might give him a refund, but it sounds like you did everything right from your end and have tracking proof that it was delivered to the correct address. So the refund (assuming he gets one) will come from ebay and not you.

At least, that's my experience when this has happened to me a couple times over the past few years.

Your fine and he's sol. Happen to me before with a $200 card that was probably delivered to the wrong address. Sucks but happens.

Does tracking show dlvd to his zip code?

  • eBay will side with you. They may refund him eventually, but it would be out of their pocket, not yours.

Best advice to give the buyer is to open a claim with USPS to attempt to locate the package.

They will side with you as long as DC shows that package was dlvd to his zip code at least.

Yes, the tracking info show that it was delivered to his zip code. Also, I use Ebay shipping so address was correct and it was a confirmed address.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

Would it be different if you didn't use the ebay shipping label, like if you just wrote his address on the package yourself but still paid for tracking info?
  • No. You just manually add the tracking to eBay's system. Not sure why anyone wouldn't use the eBay labels, though.
  • Could still be at their Post Office. Been a lot of pre-scans happening before actual delivery lately. You might be okay, as long as your buyer is honest. I would ask for another week just to be sure.

Also a lot of no scans. On Tuesday, I dropped off two packages with ebay paid shipping, one was scanned on Tuesday and left, the other didnt get scanned until Wednesday then left that day.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Exactly. It is very convenient because the tracking gets uploaded automatically and the postage is actually cheaper. Plus you know that the address is labeled accurately every time.

In my case there were several scans along the way.

The price of postage through Ebay is almost always the same as on the USPS site. Ebay makes it look like you are getting a discount. On packages with a value of $250 or more Ebay charges for signature confirmation. If you use the USPS site Signature confirmation is free for anything over $250.

The discount, I believe, is relative to in-person prices at the PO.

I use eBay labels mostly for the convenience factor. Hard to beat that.

Yes, the price discount is relative to the Post Office. Plus, you can only do Priority Mail on the USPS web site. You can't purchase First Class...at least it was that way the last time I checked.
