counterfeit Lynchburg commem on Ebay

This one is so bad it's funny:

He has some other coins up, too. The LI commem looks a little funny to me, too. I don't collect Morgans, but I'd be weary of those as well.

This reminds me of the Spanish Trail a dealer brought to the ANACS table. It even had the wrong font on the lettering!

Many here are very quick to attack perceived 'fake' Commems on eBay without looking closer. If you examine the Lynchburg carefully you will see it is the much rarer "PLURIBU" variety. Every one of those came from this die, which is often viewed as fake. It is just that so few exist, we aren't familiar with them when they appear in any auction-style venue.

I was prepared to go to $2000 for this one, but now I know the heat will be on and I will never steal this rare variety for that price.

Really? Never heard of that and I have been dealing for sometime - can you provide a reference source to back up that?

I wish I could see that seller salivating over the current $10K+ worth of bids, now... image

(PS- The "pluribu" is a rare southern cousin of the caribou, for those who were wondering. Rednecks hunted them to extinction.)
