Who were the least talented profesional athletes that were famous?

MGLICKERMGLICKER Posts: 7,995 ✭✭✭
Unlike popular music, you still need a decent amount of talent to make it at the professional level.

Having said that, who are your candidates?

Subject to debate of course (as everything here is).

James "Buster" Douglas. He had one shining night in Tokyo.

I always felt that Dennis Rodman was the best basketball player ever to actually have no basketball (i.e. shooting, dribbling, etc) skills. He impacted games purely on hustle. He was obviously athletic.

Hulk Hogan. The absolute worst wrestler ever but the most popular ever. I don't remember him doing many wrestling moves. Of course pro wrestling is athletic so I will call him an athlete, but he was a horrible wrestler.

Rodman was pretty talented at rebounding I would say.

    How about Tim Tebow!?

Not even remotely close to the worst wrestler ever, even if you restrict it just to guys who were stars. He had waaaaay too many excellent matches to be the worst ever.

Really? He hasn't quite lived up to his initial hype but notice in 2012-2013 he played 82 games and averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 3 boards. 44% shooting. Not such horrible numbers. Maybe not an all-star but not "least talented professional athlete..." in my opinion.

The so called "Fab Five" of Michigan (NOT to be confused with the REAL Fab Five, the '48 Cats)...even with ineligible players they couldn't even win a conference title, much less a national title. image Their 1993 NCAA Runner-Up was stripped and yet even now over 20 years later we're still making heroes out of these guys? Hardly a peep is mentioned about the REAL Fab Five who won our first NCAA title AND Olympic Gold, and then the "Fab Four" won a second title the next year...and we have not won consecutive titles since (we came close to a three peat in 1996-98)...yet when was the last time a special or anything was done about them? image

Yes I know this is not professional but it still should be mentioned.

For him to have been named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players (in celebration of the NBA's 50th b-day) in only his fourth season is indeed saying a lot.
