Wait time on mechanical errors

What's a good time to get your mechanical errors back. Going on a month now since I sent Psa mistakes back which were clearly marked correctly on my submission form. You would think they would fix right away. On going problem with this every order. These days . No quality control at Psa?

Good question. I just checked the status of mine (one card) that they received on Jan 13. It logged on the 20th and still nothing. You'd think they could fix one card pretty quickly and would give it a little priority since they messed it up in the first place.

I've had to send back cards for mechanical errors quite a few times and the wait times have been all over the map. From 2 days to over 30 days. Most returns have been five cards or less.

They say it should be around 10 days.

Q: What should I do if my card is labeled incorrectly?
A: PSA will correct, free of charge, any mislabeled items. Please fill out a submission form, mark "Other" as the service level, write in "Mechanical Error" and include a short note on the form describing the mistake. Be sure to write in the Declared Value for your item. If you are not a Collectors Club member, please contact Customer Service at (800) 325-1121 or info@psacard.com to have a submission form mailed to you. Please mark the outside of your shipping box “Mech. Error". PSA will fix the label and reholder your item in approximately 10 business days and ship it back to you free of charge.
  • Mine have averaged around 1 month / 20 business days.

My best advice: breathe in, breathe out. It'll be OK. You'll have it back soon enough and at no out of pocket cost! There are many far worse things in life than a wait.

Every time I've had to send cards back I've also got vouchers for what it cost me to ship them back.

I'd say a calendar month is about right. Be glad if you get it back corrected at all though. I've had one sent back to them as a mech and still came back incorrectly labeled the second time and I have another one that I know is clearly severely mislabeled but even after they've seen the scans they insist it's right.

Oh well in the grand scheme of things they get right than wrong.

The most recent mech error order I sent in was 64 items logged on 10/31 and shipped back out returned to me on 12/31. Not sure if it would have been the same wait time if it had been only a few. I've got about another 60 or so mech errors that need to be sent in, and I am debating whether to send them in all at once or to break it down into smaller portions in hopes of faster TAT. Probably wouldn't make too much noticeable difference either way though?

Also, I've noticed a bit of a reduction in mech errors recently. Over the past several months, I'm down to an average of approx 12% mech error lately, when I had been hovering more like 18%. The N9's went from an average of 33% for a couple years down to around 7% now, attributed to the use of the electronic sub form. This is because the sub form has a note line for each item, so it is now possible to paste in a URL with a link to set info and checklist for an item with which PSA has not previously been familiar. Admittedly, these reported percentages are high though because much of what I sub is more unusual stuff, similar to eagles, maybe Minor Leaguer I think, and some others here like that. Either way, the fact is my subs haven't changed much in oddball content but the mech errors are a little less frequent, based on enough sub material for the data to be statistically significant.

Mechanical errors should be 1-2 day turnaround. I know PSA is busy, but items that they incorrectly identified that they put in a "holding pattern", should not be costing money/sales/turnaround to paying customers. Vouchers to cover the cost of shipping should be doubled and not equal, but then again, I work in customer service, other businesses choose to do differently

I'm at 36 business days for 10 mech errors. I have the feeling the lack of subs this month due to the high specials will result in them being able to catch up. I have multiple subs at or around 50 days.

I have done two mech reholders. They were at PSA for 18 and 19 business days respectively. I have called PSA and their official stance is that there is no estimated time for these, however, they say it is typical for them to take two weeks. I wouldn't get worried, they're probably just behind as others have mentioned.

As I quoted above, they are stating the approximate 10 day turnaround. If that's not even close, they should stop saying it.

the problem is that psa screwed them up and they take their sweet time fixing them. its a great business model to follow NOT.
