Another "Is this Jordan real?" thread!

Might have a chance to pick this one up at a good price, but I am not familiar with the fake Jordans or slabs. What do you all think?

Scan is a little blurry but here are the things to look for:

*'fromt side look at the premier under Fleer on the upper right side and the two yellows should be two different shades which this one has.
*'on the back there should be a "."'between the 27 and the 2 in the scoring average.
    * on the Bull logo in blue at the top make sure you can see separation in the eyes and not a solid eye area
*on the ball on the back you should be able to clearly see the lines.

    Hope this helps.

I would say just based on the fact that it's in a psa slab it's probably legit.

I know there are exceptions to this rule.

Has anyone actually ever seen a a fake jordan in a fake slab. Or even just a fake psa slab? I'm not being sarcastic, I know a lot of guys here talk about them but I can't remember if anyone has ever posted a ebay listing.
  • Thanks KendallCat & MrNearMint,

The main reason I am skeptical is because I have bought from this AH before & have gotten great deals on authentic items but have also purchased fakes & forgeries, and they do not stand behind their products. So I am trying to be cautious. Most fake Jordans I would think would be in 9 or 10 holders. I know the cert # matches with PSA's website, and the bar code looks like it matches the cert #, which is a plus.

There's a thread on Net54 that shows many fake slabs that would fool even a savvy collector.

  • I just noticed that the red near the top of the card on the back appears to have bled or faded into the top white border. Has anybody seen that before on Jordan rookies?

I know the chase of a good deal is enticing, but this alone would be a deal breaker for me. If they will not stand behind the sale so you can get it in hand and inspect it properly, I say pass. That being said, I am a novice at best with this set. If you do pull the trigger - good luck!

I'm not an expert on the methods to have a safety net for fraud outside of ebay's moneyback guarantee...but I think paypal or your credit card might cover you if it turns out to not be legit.

Based on what I see in those pictures...i'd be willing to pay about 2/3rds of the value from the auction house...so I'd cap out at $650. Just my opinion.
  • I am bumping this in order to try to get more opinions on the red that is on the top white border on the back. Any opinions?

I picked up a PSA 10 Joe Montana RC off eBay a while back that turned out to be a real Montana put into a fake slab with a Certification Number of a real PSA 10 Montana. Thanks to some help from PSA confirming it was fake and eBay protection, I got my money back. The Montana looked great in the case but ended up having a big dent in the card right on the helmet. Probably would grade a 7.
As the money gets more and more crazy for these high end cards, the more sophisticated these fake slabs might get, so always err on the side of caution.

Good luck with whatever you decide....

    That's pretty crazy.
    Couple questions,
Did you have to send the card/slab in to psa?
Was it idententical to a real psa slab? Any differences?
Do you still have the slab?

Why don't you tell the AH to send you a quality scan?

  • << <i>Why don't you tell the AH to send you a quality scan? >>

I tried that once before. They do not have a scanner, they show all their items via photo.

Yes, I know, what AH doesn't have a scanner? They do not specialize in cards. They do all collectibles. There is no doubt, they are really a Mickey Mouse operation.
I could tell you a 100 stories about the run ins I have had with them in the past couple of years. I hardly ever deal with them anymore, only when something like this comes up.

but once again, what do you think about what appears to be a bleed over on the top border on the back?

I checked my 86 87 fleer Jordan and it does not have any bleeding on the back. I also checked a bunch on ebay and found two that have slight bleeds.

OK, I see those. They don't seem to have as much bleeding but they certainly have some, so maybe the bleeding does not eliminate this as being a fake.

let's talk barcodes. From what I have understood in the past, on many of the fakes, the barcode does not match the cert #. I have a PSA card that begins with 0 and ends in 7, like the Jordan in question, and they are the same in the beginning & the end? So maybe that increases the chance of this being legit?
