I recieved a letter form a dealer in Fla. offering to send my coins to PCGS at a 30% discount for Express service.

I though All dealers paid the same price.

I see now that I am very wrong. WOW lesson learned.

Not the same playing field, different ratres for different dealers????

A level playing field? That brought a smile to my face. If there were a level playing field in the business end of the hobby, far fewer people would be making money.

Consider for a moment that this may be a promotion the dealer is doing at a loss? Express Fees are $60. Dealers do pay less than that amount but not 30% less. BUT with their discount they can afford to send letter like that out there and take a small loss on the grading. Why? Because they know they will be able to buy many of the coins they send in as a result. This will well make up the loss on the grading. For those they cannot buy, they also know they will develop good will with the customer (rightly so). I know VERY FEW authorized dealers that make grading coins a profit center. There just is not enough room. It is a service for customers, with the idea that the dealer will get a shot at getting the material.

AMRC. This mayby true, but it doesn't good. Thier letter should be better written, because it does not look that way.

Write the dealer back to accept his offer, with the caveat that absolutely none of your coins will be for sale after graded. Let us know what the response is to that counter. image

    Hoard the keys.
  • I would think that volume would play a part in fee structure also, such as the volume HA does every month. That is just business and operates the same in many other areas of sales, just look into car sales and see what dealer discounts and allotments are especially when a sell one get 2 back deal comes up.
