1848 Variety??? Value?

Does anyone know what variety this 1848 cent is? On the reverse under E of one and between NT of cent it looks straight on like a lamination but under a scope t is not raised. Thanks

Not without seeing the obverse. 'Variety' implies die marriage, and a die marriage can only be determined by seeing both dies, obverse and reverse.

Looks like an interior cud to me. That looks like raised metal flow resulting from a large flake separating from the die surface, creating the void in the die. There are a couple 1848 varieties listed in Grellman's guide that reference the "fusion" of C_E of CENT as a result of die crumbling, but none which specifically call out the apparent cud on your coin.

No, a lamination is a thin layer of the coin surface that has separated from the core composition by lifting or peeling, usually because of impurities in the planchet metal.

A cud is a raised lump of metal on the surface of the coin which resulted from metal flowing to a void caused by metal missing from a die after having sheared completely away from the die.

I'm gonna guess N-9 with a minor lamination.
