Kunker Sale

Saw super high results in the Kunker auction. Got crushed on all, and I mean multiples of estimates. There goes the thesis that Europe is cheaper nowadays.

I agree specially for Kuenker auction ........Big Success most of them , prices always much more than the low estimates ........BUT for High Grades World Coins and of course no comments for the Rarities .

I spent the day at the Kuenker sale. My take on the sale is that it was strong, but that the estimates were often way too low. Not just based on the results, but also based on what I know the coins to be worth.

Estimate 7500. Paid 26K hammer, and I was happy to get it. (Gem quality R8 silver die trial of an R7 gold piece.)

One more thing to understand about Kuenker estimates is that they're not really estimates. They're only an extrapolation of the reserve, which is always set at 80% of the "estimate". So in most cases, if a coin is truly intended to be sold at any reasonably imaginable price, the "estimate" will tend to be set at a very conservative level.

    Congratulations!

    Reported mintage in gold=441.
    Mintage in silver=1?

I didn't see the coin in-hand. Is it really a gem?

    Pruebas -

I'm told that there are two other pieces known in silver, one of which is supposed to be very nice. Anyway, the Kuenker coin is the first I have seen, and yes, it's a gem.

That's an impressive coin, Andy. Congratulations. I took one look at the Kuenker sale stuff and was like "nope". Then went back to buying $5.00 farthings, lol.

    Very cool coin Andy.

Kunker seems to have quite a large international following, and their auctions results speak volumes to this.

Andy - I like the fact that you have remained as passionate of a collector as you are a dealer.

    Congratulations on this wonderful pickup!
