I was excited when I saw the thread, I don't have a 1903 set. Much sadness ensued when I saw a 1902 set. Perhaps you should edit the thread title?

These seem to have a matte proof appearance- Sort begs the question if they came from the 1902 matte proof set

We're hijacking Dan Glen's thread here. His set looks matte proof and is toned like many others I have seen. It actually looks a lot nicer than many other 1902 sets I've seen. I believe they came with both types of matte proof sets AND by themselves.
