I read the Stacy Schiff "Cleopatra" book two or three years ago, and it was excellent. To be honest, when I picked it up, I was less interested in Cleopatra herself than I was in her time, place, and contemporaries. The author covered all of those in exquisite detail. I enjoyed reading about Alexandria in particular. It was well worth a read- I can heartily recommend it.
