Pick the best Topps cards from 1952 to 1975 - non Mantle

Reading the article in Forbes about the strength of the card market one thing that they discussed was basically that all of cards were Mantle's - 52 Topps and 51 Bowman. It also said that these cards and their sales were pulling up all Mantle sales. Since most collectors know that Mantle is the king of modern cards the question I have is this. If you take Mantle cards out of the discussion what (3-5) Topps cards would you buy in a PSA 8 or above for the long haul? I will include my list based on current demand, scarcity and recent sales activity. Amazing when you take Mantle out what is left.

1954 Aaron
1955 Clemente
1953 Mays
1968 Ryan
1963 Rose

Cool thread topic. Gonna go crazy and do Top 10 for fun. If I were curating a collection from scratch and could only pick ten cards, no Mantles, from 52-75, based on a confluence of factors such as historical importance, reflecting greatest players, showcasing different design choices by Topps, value prospects, I'd go with these. Wish I could have gotten a 71 in there but the competition was stiff.

    68 Ryan
    54 Aaron
    52 Mays
    63 Rose
    55 Koufax
    75 Brett
    73 Schmidt
    55 Clemente
    62 Maris
    54 Ted Williams #250

I'd add a whole lot of hockey cards to this list too. The obvious one is 1966 USA Test Bobby Orr, but there are plenty of other good ones too.

Seems there is no mystery here that outside of Mantle cards high grade rookies of key HOF players. The 54 Aaron and 55 Clemente are on fire right now, and Ryan rookies seem to be doing very well these days. Outside of Topps it seems that 48 Leaf cards are also doing very well - that is such a nice looking set and you get a Ruth to boot.

Yah I'm thinking the same 5-10 cards will be mixed in everyone's answer

    Aaron RC
    Clemente RC
    Banks RC
    Koufax RC
    Rose RC
    Ryan RC
    Reggie Jackson RC
    Johnny bench RC
    Tom Seaver RC
    Rod Carew RC

I think we should throw out some love to the 1962 Topps Roger Maris #1. Such an iconic card and so difficult to find in nice condition

Can't disagree with the list thus far.

How about a 52 Topps, high number, 500 club, HOF, RC: Eddie Mathews

It's one of my last true wants/needs.

The 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson is a great looking card and a tough high number. Same goes for the 1952 Topps Roy Campanella.

A PSA 8 Bobby Hull rookie is probably a tougher find than any of the Baseball mentioned.

Agree with ClockworkAngel. Besides the 1962 Roger Maris ...these #1 cards of HOFs in the set have much investment potential (1966 Willie Mays...1957 Ted Williams...1954 Ted Williams...and 1974 Hank Aaron). Let me know ClockworkAngel if you ever decide to part with the Maris.
