If it doesn't sell here I'll put it on eBay at a higher price. It'll sell. You don't find many XF's with surfaces like this one. And everyone loves overdates.

Does Sounders call it a slip of the gravers tool. image

    Either way...a killer coin.

Souders considers all the 1819/8 halves as true overdates, not graver slips like the 1822/1 O.101 or the laced lips variety. They were reused dies which would normally mean diminished detail, particularly because the dies were usually lapped prior to striking the new numeral. In this case the 9 did a pretty decent job covering the 8 so the die detail wasn't lapped away.

The were five 1819/8 overdates. Four were of the large 9 type. Only the O.101 is the small 9, making it a little more elusive for Redbook collectors.

This example is an early die state, free of die cracks. The BHNC feels the O.101' may be an R6 die state. But I'm not convinced.

Right you are, drddm! I bought this from you in March 2012 and have enjoyed it since. I upgraded to an AU58 recently so this is a spare I don't need.
