13-14 Prizm Hockey Questions

I don't collect much hockey but picked up a couple boxes on a whim.

With an RC in each pack, who should I be looking for?

Any stars or inserts worth pulling/grading?

I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Vladimir Tarasenko for sure. Nathan MacKinnon is a big one, better season last year than this year. Sean Monohan is having a great season this year so he's on the rise.
    Alex Galchenyuk is popular.

    Other notables:

Aleksander Barkov, Tomas Hertl, Valeri Nischukin, Seth Jones, Tyler Toffoli, Filip Forsberg (probably ROY), Brock Melson, Frederik Andersen, Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Huberdeau, Tyler Johnson, Tanner Pearson, Mikhail Granlund, Charlie Coyle, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Murray . Ugh, enough.
There are autos and non autos of said RCs. Also prizm (refractor like) and non prizm of the same card. There's prizm /35 and gold prizm /10 .
Ideally, you want a gold prizm auto. Most of these cards are easy 9s and 10s.

  • Prizm was released early and does not contain MacKinnon, Monahan, or Barkov.

    You want:

    Gold parallels
    SP or SSP Autos

Tarasenko autos (actually present in this product - he's not signing anymore)
  • Huberdeau, Galchenyuk, Gallagher
  • I have graded many of these. PM me if you want advise about how to get 10s vs 9s. Many thoughts on that.

I'm sure Casey's right. I didn't buy any of this stuff. I like SP authentic. Was throwing out rookies produced for said year.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Casey- I'll PM you when I'm done with both boxes.

  • Sounds good, Jim. Be careful handling the product - touch only the edges, not the face of the cards, and get them into card sleeves ASAP.

Funny you say that as I'm pretty new to Chrome and Prizm and flipping through a pack of those is far different from flipping through card board.

I only handle the sides and it's a much slower and deliberate process.

This would not be the first time that D and A has wrongly mentioned potential rookie cards to be found in a product. They claim Mackinnon is in this product

I actually got a partial refund on an OPC product I bought from them when I pointed out a similar mistake. So if you've bought this from them....
  • I saw that too and made me shake my head. MacKinnon does have Prizm cards (you can see them on eBay), but they're all from later versions (cracked ice Expo versions, Prizm update in Rookie Anthology, etc.). None in those boxes.
  • One other thing I'd mention, perhaps obvious. You can see the checklist here; it notes which autos are short-prints.
