I email the eBay seller..

Telling him I will be bidding on multiple items and that is why I havent paid for the first two I won a few days ago. The next day I get an upaid item case opened against me.. I asked him why and he hasn't responded.. There are two more auctions I want to bid on that end in 1 and 2 days.

I've seen some sellers only willing to combine items won within 24-72 hours, but they've usually explicitly stated it in their auctions. I've never had an issue when I sent them a heads up I was interested in other items beyond that period. Perhaps they have it set to automatically open an unpaid item case after X days? I would wait to see if they send a response through messages.

two things: did you read the auction rules which may have stated combined shipping is only allowable within a certain time period, i.e. the course of one calendar week. many sellers do that.

also, did you simply tell the seller your intentions or did you formulate your communication in the form of a question, as to asking for permission?

this may help you find your answer.

Usually they are comfortable waiting 2, maybe three days. If they are auctioning a lot of items it may be difficult or they find annoying to keep track 4-5 days or more.

Are they a major seller, probstein pwcc etc? Because they may not have the time or unwilling to check all the emails and "tailor" different payment plans to different buyers. And keep track of all of these requests. A smaller seller would probably be more willing to wait. And check their emails.

I'm with you, sometimes the shipping fees are significant and combined does save a lot. good luck.

  • I know my account it setup to automatically open up cases, so perhaps it was automated.

In fact, Probstein allows combining orders for up to 10 days from the first win. I happen to have just asked him that question.

This was my first thought as well. I know there are automated settings to open cases, although I couldn't tell you how to access those settings. Perhaps the the setting is set to a low number of days.

It can be set as low as 2 days/48 hours, don't recall where to set it up either, but have received them that quickly.

That's why Rick is one of the best sellers on eBay. I love winning an auction and then winning another NINE days later and combining shipping!

His auction states.. "If payment has not been received within 7 days, I will file a Failure to Pay Claim with Ebay!" I won the auction on 1/14 and he sent it out accordingly. Ive been on vacation but that's no excuse for not emailing him sooner to alert him to my buying intentions.

I just received an apology that he forgot to turn off the automatic unpaid item claim and requested I pay for what I've won so far and he will adjust shipping according for future wins this week. Sounds amicable to me.
  • You still have a few days before the cases get turned in to strikes, so if your other auctions end in a day or 2, then you are fine. Don't sweat it, bid accordingly, promptly pay and never look back. It is annoying though, so I get where you are coming from.
