Are Prices that soft..Upcoming Legend

bestdaybestday Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭✭
Looking at the upcoming Legend Auction ,something stood out .. Several coins bought 4-5 years and now up for auction, will sell at lower prices than the purchase price of 2010-2011 . Some ex Bear coins , others up to 15,000 look soft . Is that price softness true for even higher priced coins ?

Not necessarily, also it was said in another thread that many of the Bear coins were purchased for the full-bore retail price at the time, plus auction houses estimates like to seem to be conservative so that when the coin sells for more, it makes them look good. That's just my opinion, or the coin was really nice and collectors bid accordingly.

Keep in mind that in 2010-2011 the gold and silver market was 20-40% higher.

When silver is hot, silver coins are promoted and prices rise.
When gold is hot, gold coins are promoted and prices rise.

When metals are down for both, neither are promoted heavily and prices are likely to fall.

Such is the case and over the last 2 years of falling metal prices- the market has finally caught up with the metal correction.
may the fonz be with you...always...

Are you speaking of the auction that hasn't even took place yet? How do you know what the prices will realize? Are you speaking of the estimates? If so, they are usually low.

Estimates are $3,000- $ 8,000 lower than purchase prices .....and lower than recent auction prices of same grade..

I'm confused, but regardless estimates are often low and any analysis of and conclusions about prices realized best take place after the auction is over.

Don't ever bid based on Goldberg estimates, you will get blown out of the water by wholesale bidders.

Estimates are traditionally low in auction catalogs. They usually mean squat.

If you think prices are soft, wait until the Pogue Collection gets sold. The roof will come off from the prices realized. Quality always sells high.
