Lost package - when to refund ebay buyer

Hi all-

Small time seller on ebay and I have my first lost package situation. Item was shipped on Jan. 10 and the item is now in NY. It needs to go to MA.
Tracking # is below.

Buyer just submitted a case in ebay. This is a $200.00 card so I can understand the frustration. How much longer should I wait to refund?

Not sure why an Ebay buyer would submit a case after 9 business days when tracking shows still enroute. I would ask Ebay what to do, it seems there is risk in refunding as the card will likely still arrive based on activity on the tracking number as recent as yesterday.

I would give it until after the buyers mail delivery on Saturday. I believe the buyer has to wait 3 days (business days?) before they can escalate the case further for eBay to make a decision and it doesn't look like it's been lost, just taking a longer journey than normal. The tracking should work in your favor.

I think you need to wait at least until there is no more action on it's movement. Maybe call USPS and tell them the issue and maybe they can get it going on the correct path immediately. If the buyer receives the card and you have refunded, do you know the buyer will resend you the funds? Otherwise you might be out card and cash.

If you provide tracking to EBay I would imagine that would be good enough?

As a buyer they are protected so it would be nice if they would just exhibit some patience.

As long as it is still getting scanned, I would be patient and also contact the buyer to remain patient. BTW, howdy neighbor from Arlington, VA.

Delayed, yes, lost, no. It will arrive.

1. Call national USPS customer service. See if they can issue a "recall".

2. If item is delivered and shows it via tracking after an item not received claim, you may be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. If so, they cover the cost of the refund. You can google it for all the details.

3. It's unlikely to stay in perpetual limbo, at some point it will be deemed undeliverable and RTS. In that case, you're only out the cost of shipping, just like a return.

Agreed...your item JUST GOT A SCAN for Pete's sake!!!! The buyer needs to be patient. I am in the camp that believes it will show up!

Not sure of said value, but just fyi, certain packages over said value only go on insured trucks and take forever. I sent a card over $1K via usps and it took 14 shipping days to go about 4 hours up the road.

Geez, I waited almost a month to open a case and my tracking was never updated besides its original departure.
This buyer needs to have a little more patience, as said already, they are full covered by ebay if item does not arrive.

You could, of course, stop using eBay, since they make it so hard for sellers. But I'm guessing that the worldwide audience is more desirable than the flea market crowd, even with the 11.5% fees that you have to pay.

I'm sure it will arrive safely, hold onto your money.

Anything over $100 I ship USPS Priority. Anything over $1000 I spring for the USPS Express Shipping. Small price to pay for having a card like that to spend as little time as possible on the back of a truck.
