Hello friends,
I'm not sure I've seen anyone post any psa/dna photo poppage before, so I thought I would. This submission is the extent of my current Type I photo collection, but I feel like this is an area of the hobby that has a lot of room for growth. Also, I thought it was kind of cool that if you click on the cert number, it actually pulls up a photo of the item referenced, along with the details.

Thanks for letting me share!

Eagles - The only information I submitted was the main subject in the photo (ie. Ruth, DiMaggio, etc), and approximately when I believe the photo was taken. The thing about many of these images is that they're from news sources, so the date and a brief description of the event is typically attached to the back of the photos for (what I'm assuming to be) media archival purposes.
I'm new to this segment of the hobby, but here's the way PSA/DNA classifies the photo types:
- Type I - A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (within approximately two years of when the picture was taken).
- Type II - A photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
- Type III - A 2nd generation photograph, developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during the period (within approximately two years of when the picture was taken).
- Type IV - A 2nd generation photograph (or 3rd or later generation), developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during a later period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
**Type 1 photographs are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their vintage and originality.
I hope that helps.

Do you know going in when buying these raw, that they are Type I's?

I wish I could say I was certain that they were - but the truth of the matter is, I did not. I got lucky, as a seller on eBay (with great feedback) was selling a bunch of what he identified as Type I photos. Not knowing how to distinguish between the types, I decided to take a gamble on them. This was well over a year ago, and I finally got around to getting them authenticated. I'm not sure what all goes into determining the "type" of photo, but as I understand it - the stamping on the back of the photo has a lot to do with it.

That's a good question. I was under the impression that they did. I guess I'll find out for sure in a day or two.

On the back of the Ruth golfing photo, does it identify the other golfers? The one on the left is either Ty Cobb or his long lost evil twin brother (or, perhaps with Ty, his long lost GOOD brother).
Wilt Chamberlain in college....hmmm....do you think he was at 500 by that point?
(reference to Wilt's scoring off the court of over 10k)
edited to add new joke and reference
<< <i>Very cool! The stamping on the back is almost as interesting as the photo on the front.

Good eye. That photo is of (left to right) Ty Cobb (or possibly evil twin), Billy Burke (pro golfer), Ruth and Tris Speaker.

I received the items back today, and was sad to see they did not encapsulate the photos. So I guess that answers the question. This is a bummer as that was really the only reason I submitted them for grading. Oh well, lesson learned.

Wow, I guess the customer service rep I talked to was right then when she told me they don't slab 8 x 10 photos. I was going to send one in for grading/encapsulation but not now.
Nice photos you have, those are very neat.
