What would this autograph grade? Worth it or not to get graded? Babe Ruth

For those of you that get autographs graded, what do you think this one would grade? (it's already been PSA/DNA and JSA authenticated so not worried about authenticity, just wondering what it would grade) Would you get it graded if it was yours? I think it would look pretty sweet in the photo slabs with a graph grade (if it's high enough) While I follow the autograph market a GREAT deal, I don't pay much attention to autograph grades, as my own eyes can tell me if an autograph I'm looking at is attractive or not. However, I do know a lot of people are fans of grades, and wonder if this one would be worth it to get a number grade (would the cost be justified by what it might grade at? I think I'd only pay a grading fee, somewhere between $50-100 not an authentication fee since that has already been done) if my plan is to eventually sell at some point. At what grade would it not be worth it? (IE, 7 or 8 or something else?) I've gotten some other items graded (autograph grades which came back all over the place), and haven't been able to reliably figure out what autographs will grade.

Any chance this lands a 9 or 10 due to the great contrast? AND Does PSA have slabs big enough for 8 x 10 photos?

    If that's not a 10 I don't know what is.

That is a great piece. I've always thought he had one of the best signatures. Very good penmanship.

    Thanks,

If someone needs a grade to tell them to pay "high grade" money for that piece, they have problems. Spectacular.

If only athletes signed like that today.
  • Mike,

As everyone has said - fantastic piece. Just outstanding.

I do not think it would grade a 9 or 10 due to fading of the writing. I say this in the absolute sense - compared to an autograph penned today. Surely this is one of the finest Ruth autos that I have ever seen. PSA grades not based on scarcity, wow-factor, or particular specimen. There are several lighter spots throughout the writing that I believe would lower the grade.

Hope this helps - I am not familiar enough with the market to answer your other questions.

Oh well, they don't have holders for an 8 x 10 anyway according to the customer service person on the phone.

I thought I had seen large photos in PSA Photo slabs but it looks like I was wrong.

...ya know, you could cut each letter, have them put in a custom cut, and make about $6,000+ on it.

edit to add: I know this is NOT what you want to do, just saying it's nice enough and if one was profit-driven they could go this route.

Mike, they do to have holders for 8x10 photos. I just seen a bunch of them last month up for auction

That's what I thought. Maybe I'll email them instead of calling to see if the answer changes when it's in "writing". I've hunted and pecked around their website trying to find it, but so far have been unsuccessful in between reading homework today.
