Met Bobby Richardson the Other Night

On Thursday, I attended a banquet in Reading (PA) whose headline speaker was Yankee great, Bobby Richardson. Mr. Richardson is in great shape for being 79 years old (he retired from baseball as a player at age 30) & I was fortunate to have him sign a copy of his recent biography as well as a OMLB (he added the 1960 WS MVP inscription without me asking):

He was a beloved Yankee - why did he retire so young?

I haven't read his book yet for details, but when I asked him that he simply said "it was the right time." Of course afterwards he had a successful run as a college baseball coach (South Carolina & Liberty).

What a great signature he has, unlike today's chicken scratchers! He will be here in Greenville(SC) next month as guest speaker for the annual Furman U. baseball fundraiser.

And still a very nice sig. I noticed that some players in their later years have a change for the worse in their autos. I.E., Musial, Aaron and Kaline come to mind.
