Have you seen one of these PCGS "sample" slabs?
I'm having quite a bit of difficulty finding any valuation reference to this slab. I can't find any sales/auction results and am getting conflicting information.
Let me know if the picture doesn't show up, I'm having a tough time getting it to work as I haven't posted here much.
Thank you for your expertise and knowledge, it is greatly appreciated.

and here's one sold on Ebay (with Milk Spots):

This is only the second one I ever recall seeing. I remember when the first one (the one at the link above) came up on eBay -- in about 2005 I think -- there was a lot of drooling among sample slab collectors. I don't recall seeing another one since although some of the more obsessive slab collectors here might. It should be worth quite a premium, especially toned as it is. Congrats on owning a very rare sample slab and thanks for sharing it!

It's important to keep in mind that as the sample slab threads evolve what was written 10 years ago may not be true today.
Thanks again!

Evidently "Sample Slab" collecting has turned into "Samples of Slabs" collecting as I would not consider the subject coin to be a "Sample" slab since it does not say "Sample".
Maybe the same difference as Uncirculated and Uncirculated?
Different though.

the coin number, grade, and cert number tell me that it must be a sample

The seller has a couple of other ASEs listed and has an interesting price on them.
Now to the OP did you call PCGS and ask what exactly this slab is and how it compares to the "sample" slab?

Fine.
We'll add numismatic value to "First Graded" slabs then.
The point being, "Sample Slabs" are prepared and given out by the TPG to show a "sample" of what the latest slab looks like. Anything else...........is simply questionable.
Coin number or not.

If you're into items associated with a specific TPG, then it's very collectible. Just like a calendar, slab holder, different generations of boxes, other promotional slabs, etc.
It was a giveaway to dealers to celebrate a milestone. Given the value of the ASE, I doubt the survival rate is very high.
This from Cammy (Sampleslabs.com).
"Now this is a neat slab! I am calling this slab a sample for several reasons but PCGS doesn’t even remember making it! Instead of the word sample in the middle of the label this one has “Specimen”. The coin is a normal MS-68 silver eagle and not a special strike or proof specimen. The serial numbers have “500000.00” before “/1234567” (which is very similar to the 12345678 on the normal green label samples). Could it be the 500,000th coin graded? Maybe. Could it be a sample? Most likely."
