Pet Peeve - eBay Invoices

Auction #1 ends. You snipe and win. You get the eBay email "You Won!".

30 seconds later, you get a seller-initiated invoice for 1 card plus shipping. Well, OK, I knew how much it was when I bid on it? I don't think I need a reminder because the auction literally just ended. It comes off as completely unnecessary and as something of a preemptive nag from the seller. I got it, you would like to be paid when you sell a card, but your invoice has appeared before it is even physically possible to click through the eBay check-out.

Even worse, about half the time, when you win several cards from these sellers and ask for a combined invoice, they take 24 hours to respond.

I realize this is completely trivial .... flame away ...

First world problem to be sure! image

What bothers me more is when a seller re-sends an invoice like 4 hours before sending the original one as if to suggest you should have paid already so in case you forgot, here it is again, LOL!

Invoices are almost entirely unnecessary if the seller has his account set up correctly. Along the same lines- I always get buyers immediately requesting an invoice and wonder why they need the invoice when combined shipping is automatically calculated. All they have to do is hit pay now. I always wonder why folks think they need an invoice in order to pay.

My biggest Ebay pet peeve is getting 3 different notifications when I am outbid on an item.

I'll often sell a single card to a buyer and immediately get asked for an invoice.

I think it's part of the rating system? Sent invoice , told me when the card was shipped and added tracking...

  • It's not. You'll only receive an invoice if (1) you ask for it, or (2) your seller gets antsy about you paying.

Or the buyer has purchased more than one card and you need to adjust to the proper combined shipping rates.

With my seller account eBay automatically sends an invoice to buyer. Maybe it is sent off as soon as item ends. Is this what the OP is referring to?

  • Quite possibly, though I think many are manually sent.

As a seller, if you do not send an invoice, unpaid item assistant will not be activated. FWIW.

If you get multiple invoices, it could be because Ebay automatically sends an invoice after the auction ends, and then the seller, not realizing what EBay is doing, sends one on his own behalf.

My account is setup also to auto send invoices once an auction is completed. I only go back and resend one after 4 days of no payment or not hearing from the buyer.

Which seems to be a too frequent occurence lately on Ebay. At what point do you file the NPB?
  • I wait a week and send an invoice and message first.

I will only send an invoice after 3 days of non payment, I figure if a person hasnt paid in 3 days, they probably forgot. I actually did this on a lot a few days ago...I forgot I bid and even though it was only a day later, got sent a payment reminder.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
