Techy / Scanner Question

Hello All!

Been perusing the forums and see a lot of high quality scans. I would like to catalog my collection and just looking for tips and or suggestions (as far as settings) to scan my cards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Most recommend Epson scanners. A forum search for that word will lead you to many helpful threads.

I would recommend at least 300 DPI for the resolution, and would also use a descreen funtion if the scanner software has it. Once you complete a couple scans, one of the best ways to make sure your color looks right (ie. not too bright or not too dim/washed out) is to look at the colors on the flip. For a PSA flip, make sure the red looks like it does in hand, and make sure the white isn't too bright. You can also save time by scanning 4 cards at once, then using a program to crop out each card, rather than scanning each card at a time. Also, I get best results with my Canon CanoScan 9500 by leaving the lid up.
  • Thanks guys!

Typed in Epson and listed 2 pages of posts!

Tons of reading to do, but in the meantime if anyone has any other quick tips feel free to post for me...especially on the actual settings themselves

I bought a refurbished Epson V37 directly from epson.com last year and it was only 60 bucks. Works like a charm. I just use the automated settings and it seems to work well. As someone else pointed out, leave the scanner lid up for best results. This particular model doesn't do chrome cards well (the chrome tends to look gray), but I just normally add a cell phone pic to prove it's a chrome card (if making a BST listing, for example).

    Happy scanning! image
  • Settings vary dramatically by scanner and require individualized tweaking. The key to try to make the card look as closely to as it does in person as possible.
