Does Ian @Great Collections know that this coin has a twin?

Yikes. Great Collections only sells/auctions coins that they have possession of so I guess we know which sale/auction is bogus.

It may just be a case of forgetfulness. I purchased a civil war token from a dealer over a year ago and it is still listed on his website today.

I definitely have this coin. We will be contacting the auction house to ask for an explanation. There are many of our listings/images being used.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Same here. I bought a couple of tokens about 4 months ago from S/B that are still listed for sale on eBay. I guess the seller forgot that he consigned them to S/B! image

You should buy one and see what they say.image This happens quite a bit to people who sell at multiple locations like ebay, shows, here on the BST. I bought a coin from a dealer at the CSNA show in OCT, and went to list it on ebay and my website. Sure enough it was still in his store a week later.

Forgetfulness would be one thing but it looks like they are using the GreatCollections image. Very shady.

Ian has been a big promoter that he always has the coin and guarantees the transaction so it looks like the other firm is trying to piggyback on his auction and not tell anyone.

Pretty clever racket. Charge 18.5% buyer's fee, pass actual bids through to GC, if one of your bidders wins, you net 8.5%. If the GC bids are higher, show them as current bids.

Come down on them hard, Ian.

My mind is getting boggled from this type of deceptiveness.

It's starting at $3000 + juice on the scam site, but opens at $6000 on GC. So if I were to win this at $3 or $4K, want to bet if I would actually get the coin? Fat chance!

I hope that there is legal recourse that GC can take against this.

I agree with MessyDesk... looks like they have figured a way to tie to other auction houses.... just guessing... if you bid 3k and win they would say it did not meet reserve or they tie to the GC bids and it just jumps so you dont win..... great to hear the update I always love a mystery image

  • It is interesting as they are also listing it as a live auction.1986-2015 Invaluable, LLC. and participating auction houses.
Ian might be able to do something about the image but not a piggyback auction especially if it gets a high final bid would you argue so much about that? The site is just basically preselling it and making their profit just like any other dealer or auction house would.

B...b...but the name of the company is US Asset Forfeiture & Seizures Inc., right?

S...s...s...so I assume all the coins in their auctions are seized from unfortunate individuals and from criminals and are being sold at fire sale prices.

Gee whiz -- maybe they are an arm of the Federal Government, as the name of the company sounds so official.

that Stanwood address is a UPS store. I watched my nephew play a football game a couple blocks from there a couple months ago, and had dinner in a Mexican restaurant on the corner of that block.

    http://stanwood-wa-4798.theupsstorelocal.com/

They (wherever/whoever they are) will just shill the auction until it is high enough so they could buy Ians or be the winner themselves and forget about it. Awful shady, but no lot viewing so items could be anywhere in the world.

A very interesting and unique business model, that accepts "virtual" consignments from individuals who supply titles and images.

At this stage the listings have been removed by the other "auction" house.
