Unopened pack experts - resealed?

Do these two packs look resealed? I don't believe so, but I'm looking for another opinion. The second pack has a weird swiping of wax on the seal that makes it almost impossible to line up the roller lines, has anyone seen this look of wax before? FYI, these are 1980-81 Topps basketball.

Thanks!

I agree that those don't look right, especially the 2nd pack. Almost looks like a glue or adhesive was used to reseal those packs.

I think they are resealed. It looks like way too much wax on the seals.

    1st pack - maybe good
    2nd pack - not a chance

If they both came from the same place, then likely neither is good

Totally agree. The surest sign of heat-based resealing is an interruption of the roller lines near the seal.

Agree. Visible roller lines which are interrupted around the seal are a sure sign of heat-based re-sealing.

Thanks for the replies. I have a full box with some packs that look like those. The majority of the packs have perfect roller lines, no question they are good. The box itself is beautiful and I want to believe the person I bought it from, that it was case fresh. There are stars showing on the back of some packs, including a Bird/Magic, so it seems that it was never searched. I understand there is the possibility that the packs with the weird wax are resealed, but it doesn't make sense to me. Again, thanks for the replies.

I'd send two into PSA a the one with the Bird of course and another and then you will know if you can send the rest in. If you send them all in you'd likely just be paying grading fees for no grades if they are bad.

  • Hard to say from pics. Sure they are irregular but I've seen horribly disfigured packs that were perfectly legit. Assembly line application of gooey wax onto folded paper wasn't an exact science, could be just excess wax from a Friday afternoon shift that just wanted to go home. That part of the process had no reason for quality control. As long as the cards stayed in it was all good. Send one in for an opinion.

How do the corner folds look?
