Nice! For some reason, I always enjoy seeing Charles III's schnoz on medals.

    Harasha,

The competition amongst us isn't about the wonderful things we post. Rather, it's about happiness, commitment and erudition. Yes, I like SE1795's coins but I like his text even more. And Z's, and the guy who knows Papal States testones like he wrote the book. And, of Nap, who gives me for reading assignment entire libraries! (And there are countless others whose knowledge is amazing!)

I don't know medals much; can you tell me a bit about them? I enjoy reading the excitement from your writing.

Echo EVP's sentiment. I find these designs appealing and when seeing these and Iosephus's write ups, they always get my attention even if I can not intelligently reply. Well done.

Lovely medals. And of Spain as well! Now I'm interested in the Mexican Academy they reference.

    The competition amongst us

Well, that is why I placed the word within quotation marks.

I do like the medals that commemorate Carlos III and IV. Not only the artwork, but also learning, while giving questionable allowance for "moral relativity," that they basically tended to be what we now call benevolent despots. Doesn't excuse the treatment of the indigenous population, though.
I do not often acquire Fernando VII medals. Too often, they are ugly. Also, I find little, if anything, to admire about Fernando. However, this particular medal did well by him, physically. In fact, this Fernando medal is a Grove plate medal. Supposedly, it was meant to be an award for literary accomplishment.

The Carlos III medal is a death medal. I suspect that the sadness in his passing probably was genuine.

    Both medals have interesting pedigrees.
